About Amaya

A Kenyan publishing house with a global imagination.

Founded in Nairobi, Amaya Publishers exists to give African writers a home that matches the ambition of their work.

Our story

Books that travel from Kenya into the world.

Amaya Publishers was founded by a team of editors, designers and educators who believed that African writers deserved a publisher who took both craft and commerce seriously. We work with first-time authors, established novelists, scholars and institutions to bring beautifully produced books to readers across East Africa and beyond.

We publish fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children's books and educational titles — supplementing them with editing, design, printing and distribution services for authors who choose to publish independently. Our list is small by design: we say yes to the books we can champion fully.

From our studio in Kilimani, Nairobi, we work with schools, universities, bookshops and book fairs across the region. Every title we print is part of a larger project — to make sure the next generation of African readers has bookshelves that look like home.

To publish, distribute and champion books by African authors that inform, inspire and endure.

Vision

A continent where every reader can find themselves on a bookshelf, and every author can find a publisher who listens.

Publishing focus

Fiction, education, scholarship, children's literature, memoir and titles that strengthen African reading culture.

Our values

The principles behind every Amaya book.

01

Authenticity

We honour the voices, languages and landscapes our authors bring to the page.

02

Craft

Every book is edited, designed and printed with attention worthy of a literary classic.

03

Partnership

Publishing is a long walk. We commit to authors before, during and long after launch.

04

Access

We make books visible — in schools, in shops, in the hands of readers across Kenya.
